Midpoint Center 2019 – Call for Entries

1 July, 2019

Since 2010, Midpoint encourages film production, whether short films, feature films or screenplays for TV, from Central and Eastern Europe. By organizing workshops in several cities around the world, and meetings with field experts and artistic consultants (including Andrei Tanasescu – co-founder of Romanian Film Festival, Toronto, and constant collaborator with festivals such as BIEFF, American Independent Film Festival, Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest), Midpoint creates the perfect place for filmmakers to learn and develop their projects, as well as for expanding their networking opportunities.

Filmmakers on their first or second feature film can apply for the Feature Launch section, at Project Development (deadline: September 13th, 2019) – the application is open for teams of up to 3 people, or at Script Consultant Training (September 27th, 2019).

Nine projects will be selected and three script consultants will help with the creative process. There will be three workshops in Trieste, Italy; Slovakia/Czech Republic; Prague, Czech Republic, as well as the Feature Launch Spotlight event. The workshops will be held in 2020, and the completed films will be released in 2021. The best project will receive a prize of 10,000 euros.

For the Midpoint Shorts section, entries are open until July 26th, 2019 for teams who have a short film in the making. Four teams of directors, screenwriters and producers will be selected. Two workshops sessions will take place in Prague and Trieste in September 2019 and January 2020 respectively.

Midpoint Writers’ Room is another section of Midpoint that offers useful information for organizing a “writers’ room” for TV shows. It is dedicated to those who want to develop a TV series and need guidance in this direction. The event lasts for four days and consists of presentations, discussions, screenwriting, brainstorming and teamwork sessions.

Both European and American styles in creative process used in television will be discussed during debates, and the participants will learn about the structure, hierarchy and processes in production.

Last date for application is September 13th, 2019, and the workshop will be held in November 2019, in Prague.
