Monday evening, June 26, at 7:00 PM, took place the Awarding Gala of the 11th edition of NexT Film Festival at the Peasant Museum Cinema. The Gala was hosted by the festival’s coordinator Yvonne Irimescu and Oana Ghera, one of the festival’s selectioners.

This year’s edition took place between June 22-26 at the Peasant Museum Cinema, the Elvire Popesco Cinema and some other alternative locations. This year’s selection was made by Massimiliano Nardulli and Oana Ghera from over 2.000 short films and it brought together a variety of styles and subjects.

The NexT Trophy 2017 was awarded to Chema Garcia Ibarra for the film The Disco Shines (Spain / Turkey)

“Cristian Nemescu” Prize for Best Director was given to Ico Costa for NYO WVETA NAFTA (Portugal, Mozambique)

“Andrei Toncu” Prize for Best sound editing was won by director Niki Lindroth Von Bahr for the film called The Burden (Sweden), sound design by Hans Appleqvist

The film First Night directd by Andrei Tanase received the Prize for Best Romanian Short Film.

The Audience Prize for a Romanian film short film within the competition was handed to Ana Maria Comanescu for the film Sex, Pipe and Omlette

Also, The Audience Award for a foreign film was won by Toma Waszarow for the short film called Red Light (Bulgaria)

Waswarow declared on stage that today’s his birth day and that he just won another Audience Award at Palm Springs IFF, California: “I chose to come to Bucharest and I don’t regret it.”

The two Special Mentions went to Our Friend the Moon (D: Velasco Broca, Spain) and Sadhu in Bombay (D: Kabir Mehta, India)

The Awarding Gala closed with the projection of the film The Human Surge directed by Eduardo Williams; the film was part of the NexT Generation section.
