Hot and fresh on the big screen (March 6-12)
Documentaries, retrospectives, programs dedicated to women in the film industry, a horror film and an action movie – March kicks off strong.
Topografia Hazardului (dir. Eva Pervolovici)
The documentary premieres today, March 6, in the presence of the director. Known for Marussia and The Delta of Bucharest, Eva Pervolovici focuses this time on the oeuvre of Daniel Spoerri, exploring the artistic practice and the function of artwork.
The study starts from his 1983 act when he buried the remains of a feast attended by 80 people in the suburbs of Paris. In 2016, they were discovered by archaeologists. Thus begins the journey of the film, which follows the artist’s memories towards the places where he grew up.
Tickets are available on Eventbook.ro.
Who Is Calling Me? / Cine mă strigă (dir. Letiția Popa, 1979)
Film Menu Cineclub dedicates the month of March to films directed by women. Each screening will be followed by discussions moderated by Film Menu writers revolving around the era in which the films were made, the filmmaking process, their authors and the way they were received by the public of the time.
Returning to the big screen on March 8 is Who Is Calling Me?, the story of Ina, a 19-year-old young woman sentenced to work on a construction site for “immorality”. Ina must integrate into the new environment, having to deal with the misogynistic prejudices of the male workers and her roommate, Anica, whose earnest ways constantly clash with Ina’s carefree nature.
The talk following the screening will be moderated by Andreea Chiper and Iulia Necșulescu. Tickets are available on Eventbook.ro.

Scream VI (dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett)
This week’s dose of jumpscares, plot twists and action that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end is provided by the franchise that has achieved a remarkable feat since the 90s: to gather all the clichés of horror films and deliver them back in a reinvented and captivating way.
Jenna Ortega (if you didn’t know her before, you definitely know her now as Wednesday, the girl with the death stare) reprises her role as the main character, alongside Melissa Barrera. The top cast is completed by franchise star Courtney Cox, and, of course, Roger Jackson, the voice of the villain from 1996 to the present day.
For the first time, the action moves from the small town of Westwood, where, over the years, serial killers put on the well-known mask and set out to murder with gusto. Now the killer is chasing the characters in New York, and the trailer of the film promises us a Ghostface like “none before”.
Scream VI hits theatres on March 8. Tickets are already on sale.
Creed III (dir. Michael B. Jordan)
The series that started as a spin-off of the Rocky movies has reached its 3rd instalment and the first without Sylvester Stallone starring as Rocky Balboa. According to the actor, the decision does not come as a result of the story evolving towards the development of new characters, but due to copyright issues between Stallone and producer Irwin Winkler.
Michael B. Jordan, on the other hand, not only reprises his role as the title character but also makes his directorial debut in Creed III. Adonis Creed, the boxer who seems to have it all, from career to perfect family, sees his position threatened by a childhood friend, Damian, who resurfaces after finishing a long prison sentence. Adonis has to prove that he deserves his place, but Damian has nothing to lose.
The cast includes former professional boxer and current actor Florian Munteanu starring as Viktor Drago.
Creed III runs in cinemas across the country.
Blood Wedding / Bodas de sangre (dir. Carlos Saura, 1981) – Online event
In March, Instituto Cervantes in Bucharest presents online a series of exceptional films by the late Spanish director Carlos Saura, awarded this year with the Honorary Goya Award.
On March 10, the musical Blood Wedding will be available on the Institute’s Vimeo channel for 48 hours, starting at 9:00 p.m. It is the first part (followed by Carmen and El amor brujo) of a trilogy that redefines the dramatic tradition of Spanish culture.
A group of dancers perform Federico García Lorca’s Blood Wedding, where a married man tries to reunite with his high school sweetheart, who still loves him but is about to marry someone else to please her family.
