The French Film Festival in Romania will take place between July 1-11 in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi, Timişoara, Arad, Braşov, Brăila, Constanţa, Sfântu Gheorghe, Sibiu, Suceava and Târgu Mureş.

The festival will take place both outdoors and in cinemas and will bring to the public the latest and most remarkable French productions. In celebration of its 25th anniversary edition, there will be 5 sections, each comprised of 5 movies.

Panorama of the films of the year

This section brings to the big screen the most recent successes in French cinema. Among the titles presented are Adieu les cons (dir. Albert Dupontel), the big winner at the César Awards in 2021, Eté 85 (r. François Ozon), ADN (dir. Maïwenn), and Un Triomphe (dir. Emmanuel Courcol), nominated “Comedy of the Year” at the 2020 European Film Awards. Moreover, the screening will take place in the presence of special guest Emmanuel Courcol.

Le Meilleur du FFF

The festival invites the public to (re)visit five films from its previous editions that marked the debut of several directors who have now become well-known.

The titles will be available for 24 hours before the festival on the Elvire Chez Vous platform. Opening the section is Rebecca Zlotowski’s Grand Central. Tickets are available on Eventbook.

Carte Blanche for 5 Romanian filmmakers

FFF’s new section brings together filmmakers Adina Pintilie, Radu Jude, Cristian Mungiu, Corneliu Porumboiu and Cristi Puiu. Each of the 5 guests will propose a French film that impressed or inspired them in particular.

Young Talents Competition – Feature Film

In this section, the public will watch 5 debut features in French cinema which will compete for the Audience Award: a 1000 euro grant offered by the French Institute to the director of the winning film, as well as a support package granted by TV5 Monde to the Romanian distributor who chooses to bring the film in local cinemas.

To encourage the public to watch and vote for them, the films will also be available online on the Elvire Chez Vous platform, between July 5-9.

The selection includes Slalom (dir. Charlène Favier), Seize Printemps (dir. Suzanne Lindon), and Au nom de la terre (dir. Edouard Bergeon).

Young Talents Competition – Short Film

A novelty of the 25th edition, the section proposes five titles with an interesting festival run. Film critics Flavia Dima, Georgiana Mușat and Victor Morozov will choose the winner of the grand prize, a creative residency within the Résidence de Poche program of the French Institute in Romania.
