European Film Awards 2021 – And the winners are…

13 December, 2021

The 2021 European Film Awards took place on Saturday, December 11, in a special celebration hosted by actress and writer Annabelle Mandeng. The event was held at the Arena in Berlin, and it combined studio guests with nominees who virtually attended.

The 34th EFA was streamed or broadcast in over 30 territories. The distinctions were decided by vote by the more than 4,200 members of the European Film Academy.

“We trust that the available technology and a massive effort from everybody involved, combined with our collective experience with all kinds of online gatherings, will make it possible to highlight the exceptional films and achievements nominated for this year’s European Film Awards. In difficult times like these, we especially hope that the Awards Ceremony will bring together the European film community and reach as many film-loving members of the public as possible through streaming,” stated Academy director, Matthijs Wouter Knol.

The list of nominees included feature films Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (dir. Radu Jude), Quo Vadis, Aida? (dir. Jasmila Žbanić, a Bosnia-Herzegovina, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Norway, Germany, Romania, Turkey co-production) and short film My Uncle Tudor (dir. Olga Lucovnicova).

Quo Vadis, Aida? is the big winner of the evening, and Moldovan director Olga Lucovnicova’s My Uncle Tudor is the recipient of the European Short Film Award.
