The winners of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival

The winners of the 75th Cannes Film Festival have been announced. The Palme d’Or went to Triangle Of Sadness (dir. Ruben Östlund), which was screened during the closing ceremony on May 28.

Alexandru Belc was awarded the prize for Best director, in the Un Certain Regard competition for the film Metronom.

The other contenders in the race for the grand prize were Crimes of the Future (dir. David Cronenberg), Tori et Lokita (dir. Jean-Pierre, Luc Dardenne), Stars at Noon (dir. Claire Denis), R.M.N (dir. Cristian) Mungiu), Decision to Leave (dir. Park Chan-Wook), Holy Spider (dir. Ali Abbasi).

Before the screening of Holy Spider, a film based on true events, exploring the real crimes committed by Saeed Hanaei, “hero” for some militant Islamists and killer of at least 16 women, a group of 12 women gathered and put up a protest on the red carpet, holding a long scroll with the names of 129 women who had been murdered in France since Cannes 2021.

The Best Actor Award went to Song Kang-ho for his role in Broker, whereas the Best Actress Award was snatched by Zar Amir Ebrahimi for her role in Holy Spider.

The president of this year’s jury was French actor Vincent Lindon.

The official selection of the 75th edition included Romanian productions R.M.N. (dir. Cristian Mungiu), The Potemkinists / Potemkiniștii (dir. Radu Jude) and Metronom (dir. Alexandru Belc).
