BFFF opens its 3rd edition with the A Fashion Film Lexicon multimedia exhibition on April 11th, at 19.30, at the Odeon Theater’s exhibition hall. The exhibition includes both narrative shorts and experimental films in the fashion film area, and the design of the exhibition is signed by Retro Future, a creative duo specializing in art direction, production design and costumes.

An unforgettable event in the BFFF is certainly the national premiere of the documentary film McQUEEN (directed by Ian Bonhôte, Peter Ettedgui, 2018), about the life of well-known fashion designer Alexander McQueen. The directors present a true study of this tumultuous life through exclusive interviews with family members and close friends, recovered archive footage, all presented in a complete package with a spectacular cinematography and soundtrack. Alexander McQueen has collaborated with many celebrities, including Duchess Kate Middleton, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kate Moss, Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman. The artist committed suicide in 2010 and is the first time when his art and life are brought to the attention of the public in Romania.

The cine-concert The Inferno Unseen will take place on Saturday, April 13th, a rebuilding of the unfinished film The Inferno, by Henri-Georges Clouzot, an ambitious film project consisting of an experimental montage that combines black-and-white and color footage and takes on elements from kinetic art, Op Art, or wardrobe tests. The Inferno Unseen is the project of Marketa Uhlirova, researcher and founder of the Fashion Film Festival in London, and of electronic music composer Rollo Smallcombe, alongside collaborators from the British Film Institute and Monocle. At each screening, Smallcombe is performing live. So far, it has been presented at the Barbican Center in London, the Museum of Moving Image in New York, and the Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana in Venice.

The international competition will be presented in two sets, on Saturday and Sunday, April 13th-14th, at Elvire Popesco Cinema, and the jury will decide the winners of the three awards – Best Fashion Film, Best Local Production, and Fresh Perspective. Outside the competition, there will be drama and documentary film screenings every day.

Furthermore, BFFF proposes a series of fashion and cinema-focused discussions, such as On Branded Content & New Storytelling Devices (Saturday, April 13th), Fashion in Film. Costume as Visual Language (Sunday, April 14th) and Setting up a fashion label: a starter kit (Sunday, April 14th).

Also, during all three days, you will have the opportunity to watch Virtual Reality Corner at Promenada Mall, a project that talks about and brings to the public’s attention the new media and technologies and their role in film.

The 3rd edition of Bucharest Fashion Film Festival will be held this year between April 11th-14th at Elvire Popesco Cinema, Odeon Theater, Promenada Mall and Fix | Botanical Bar.
