Oscars 2021 – And the winners are…

26 April, 2021

The 93rd Oscars took place on Sunday, April 25, in a live event, held without an audience, but with the nominees and the invited guests attending in person. The show producers decided that, despite all the difficulties, the Academy Awards should not resort to Zoom conferences or other online meetings. The two main venues that hosted the ceremony were Dolby Theater in Hollywood and Union Station in Los Angeles. The Red Carpet section of the event was adapted and included in the pre-show special, dubbed Oscars: Into the Spotlight.

Even though there was no host this year either (just like in the previous two years), the 93rd Oscars had an exceptional ensemble cast to present the awards, starring Brad Pitt, Laura Dern, Joaquin Phoenix, Zendaya, Harrison Ford and Bong Joon-ho among others.

The winner of the Best Picture category was Nomadland (dir. Chloé Zhao). Among the nominated films was Romanian documentary Collective by Alexander Nanau, competing in two categories – Documentary and International Feature Film, being for the first time ever when a Romanian film entered the race for the most coveted awards in the world.
