Radu Jude will lead Locarno’s 2023 Spring Academy workshop
Between March 10-19, 2023, ten young filmmakers will have the opportunity to attend the “Find a Film!” workshop, led by Romanian director Radu Jude, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2021 (Good Luck Banging or Loony Porn) and the Special Jury Prize at Locarno 2016 (Scarred Hearts).
The workshop is held within the Spring Academy program, now in its 8th edition, which marks the collaboration between the Locarno Film Festival and CISA (International Academy of Visual Sciences). Past mentors include Béla Tarr, Michelangelo Frammartino, Alexander Sokurov, Emmanuel Carrère and Lorenzo Mattotti.
Radu Jude will also be a guest of honor of “L’immagine e la parola” (March 10-12, 2023). The two-day event will include talks, film screenings, Q&A sessions, masterclasses, and many more.
The focus of the workshop will be history, its images and memory. Under the guidance of Radu Jude, the selected filmmakers will produce their own short films during the 10-day intensive training program, which will consist of a mix of theoretical and practical activities.
With access to the archives of The Swiss Italian Radio (which is also the regional television network), and at the same time asked to reflect on the role of the viewer within the cinematographic work and the way they influence the final result, participants will develop their projects around the image of Switzerland and its national archetypes.
The completed shorts will be presented in a special screening at the 76th Locarno Film Festival (August 2-12, 2023).
The workshop is dedicated to young talents (under the age of 35) from all over the world, who attended or are attending a film school and/or have advanced training in filmmaking and have made at least one short film, presented in public.
Applications are open until January 13, 2023, and the selected candidates will be announced by January 23, 2023. For more details, visit the Locarno Film Festival website.
