Bucking Fastard – Larger than Life, Thinner than Ice
Sisters Joan and Jean Holbrooke are a lot like Justin Timberlake’s song: it's like they’re each other’s mirror, their mirror staring back at them (oh). In his long-awaited return to fiction, Werner Herzog takes the idea quite literally and spins it into a fairy-tale logic (with a pinch of melodrama), but the results are unfortunately too loose and meandering to survive beyond the film’s uncanny flavour and the excellent performances delivered by Kate and Rooney Mara.
