Timothée Chalamet – the 30-year-old American actor fluent in French and Italian, indie darling, fashion icon, and occasional amateur rapper – turned his campaign for this year’s Oscars into something of a manifesto, one that unfolded with the same unruly momentum as his Marty Supreme protagonist. In the run-up to the ceremony, he launched a megalomaniacal, at times grating promotional tour, often appearing to remain partly in character as the whirlwind that is Marty Mauser.
